Recipes for dogs based on liver and rosemary

Liver and rosemary is a delicious food combination to include in recipes for dogs and humans. Both foods provide the body with a lot of nutrients and beneficial factors. In this article, we’ll show you how you can incorporate the combination of liver and rosemary into your dog’s diet.

Rosemary is a Mediterranean herb used in many haute cuisine dishes. Rosemary has been studied on several occasions for its nutritional benefits. This herb can be consumed in oils, infusions, raw or cooked as part of a preparation.

Rosemary leaves in infusions and the scent of rosemary have a calming effect on the nervous system. However, it is important to note that consuming rosemary in very large amounts – more than 5% of the total food at each meal – can lead to overexcitation of the nervous system.

Liver is a highly nutritious food. The liver has a very high percentage of iron, which is better assimilated by the body than medical supplements. Although many people don’t like the smell and taste of liver, dogs generally enjoy eating it.

The liver can have 10 to 100 times more nutrients than muscle meat normally consumed. The liver provides your dog with lots of vitamin A, several B-complex vitamins, iron, minerals, and lots of protein.

Dogs can eat raw liver. However, to avoid contagious diseases that can arise in meat, it is recommended that you always boil the liver before serving it to your pet.

Recipes for dogs: liver and rosemary cake

If you are looking for the right treat to reward your dog, this is the ideal recipe. We recommend that this delicious rosemary liver cake be used only as a high value prize. That is, only when your dog is behaving very well.

Also, it is not a recommended recipe for puppies under six months of age. If you are unsure which foods may cause your dog to be allergic, we recommend that you consult your trusted veterinarian.

Ingredients

  • 450 grams of chicken or lamb liver.
  • 450 grams of oats.
  • 2 tsp chopped fresh rosemary.
  • 3 eggs.
  • Water.

Preparation

Break the eggs into a measuring cup and measure their volume. Pour the eggs into a large bowl where you can comfortably mix. In the measuring cup, pour the same volume of water as the eggs. This way, the dough will not be too soft.

Pour half the water into the bowl and set aside the other half to add later. Beat the water and eggs and add the oats. By now the liver should be well cooked. Remember to boil the liver in a little water so as not to diminish its properties.

In a food processor, mix two teaspoons of rosemary with liver for five minutes. When tender,  add the egg mixture to the food processor, where the liver and rosemary are, and mix for another five minutes. If necessary, add more water until you get a spongy consistency.

Pour the mixture into an oven-safe container. Place it in the oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes at 180 °C.

After removing it from the oven, let it rest and divide it into small portions. This is one of the most delicious recipes for dogs, but you can also eat it.

Recipes for dogs: liver paste

Liver paste, liver cream or liver pate is a very simple preparation that your dog will love.

Ingredients

  • ½ kilo of liver or chicken meat.
  • 1 tablespoon of natural butter.
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped rosemary (preferably fresh).
  • 1 boiled egg.
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh garlic.

Preparation

Liver paste requires very little effort and is an incredible reward for your dog. The first thing you should do is boil the liver until it’s cooked through. You can find out if the liver is cooked when the knife easily cuts the meat and the inside color is brown.

Remember that you should boil the liver with a little water so as not to diminish its properties. If the water dries up and the meat is not yet cooked, add more water gradually so as not to overdo it.

After the liver is cooked, chop it into small pieces and place it in a pan. Saute the liver with butter and rosemary. Remove pan from heat and place contents in a food processor.

Add the garlic and boiled egg to the butter, liver and rosemary mixture. After five minutes, the liver paste should be ready.

Once ready, how should you offer this recipe to your dog? It’s very simple. Add a teaspoon to your dog’s food when he has behaved well and you want to congratulate him. Also, when you want to give him a prize, spread some of the liver paste on a biscuit.
