A Dog Bravely Saved The Life Of Her Blind Owner During A Fire

A dog bravely saved the life of her blind owner during a fire

The common denominator of each heroic act is nothing more than the courage and integrity of those who risk their lives to save a loved one. Sometimes these qualities usually exist in a person. However, it is in dogs where these virtues occur recurrently, in situations where someone common would flee from danger.

This virtue manifested itself most intensely in Yolanda, a beautiful Golden Retriever trained to call 911, in case her blind owner ran any risk, that far from acting as her instinct for survival might indicate, she faced danger to save her owner from a fire that could have ended both their lives.

The fact took place in the city of Holmesburg, during the night, when Maria Colombo, a 60-year-old blind lady, went to bed without realizing the threat that already existed at that moment and that only her dog could perceive.

That night, her basement would start to burn in flames as a result of a gas leak that would have originated a few minutes before, which neither she nor the visitor who was there were aware.

Faced with the imminent danger, Yolanda communicated with the security agencies, who arrived to rescue their owner just as the house was being violently consumed by flames. Maria and the visitor needed medical assistance because they inhaled a lot of smoke, and the dog was taken to the veterinarian, due to an injury to her eye.

After recovering satisfactorily, the bitch and her blind owner met again, knowing that if it weren’t for the bitch’s bravery and courage, they wouldn’t be together again to get on with their lives.

Both were removed from their homes as a result of the terrible fire, being assisted by the Red Paw Relief Team and the American Red Cross. The beautiful Golden Retriever was rewarded not only with treats, toys and food, but also with the respect and recognition of an entire city for her unparalleled courage.

What makes the most impact on this story is that it’s not the first time Yolanda has saved her owner’s life. The heroic acts of this bitch are not limited only to this one, but also to other simpler ones.

A very compromising situation occurred some years ago, after Maria tripped and fell heavily to the ground, the fall knocking her unconscious and causing her a dangerous wound. Faced with this fact, the dog Yolanda called 911 and stayed by her owner’s side until help arrived and they could revive her.

The second time was probably even worse as it involved third parties. As with the fire, the place where the events took place was also the basement, when two men illegally entered the residence through the basement.

In the moment of protecting herself in this situation, Yolanda closed the door of her blind owner’s house, who was sleeping, to then call the security agents and scare away the robbers, who left the gas in the boiler open before the escape.

After hearing all the noises, Maria desperately called 911, only to hear in response that their help was already on its way, due to the dog having communicated with them a few minutes ago.

Once they arrived at the residence, they went to carry out the corresponding investigations and avoided greater harm by preventing further gas leaks in time. Not surprisingly, Yolanda again took full credit for her extraordinary display of valor and heroism.

An example to follow

If in life there is someone who is responsible for ensuring the safety, tranquility and stability of the people who need it most, this dog is the clear example of how to act with those who, due to duty and exceptional situations, need our help.

Today, both continue together enjoying every moment of each other’s company, knowing that neither will fail the other.

Dogs not only exist to give us affection and fun, but also to keep our lives safe, even if we don’t know it. And if you don’t believe it, just ask Maria, the blind owner of the Golden Retriever bitch.
