The Danger Of Painting Animals

The danger of painting animals

You may have seen strangely colored rabbits or parakeets for sale in parks or shops. Or even videos and images on the internet about dogs and cats with “fun and colorful” hairstyles. Even though it sounds funny and flashy, the truth is that painting pets – and any other animal – can pose health risks. Find out why in the following text.

The trend to paint animals

This fad started in Tokyo and expanded in Beijing. It didn’t take long to migrate to some capitals such as Paris, London and New York. Painted dogs went out into the street and their owners took advantage of this way of attracting attention.

It does not matter what are the reasons that lead a person to paint their animal or even to buy an animal whose fur has been “changed”. What should interest us are the negative consequences for them.

  1. Intoxication

The paints used to change the color of animals’ fur are suitable for humans and not animals, as they contain certain harmful substances that can cause irreversible problems.

To start with, the products come into contact with the skin and travel through the dermis into the body. Furthermore, they close the pores and do not allow toxins to be eliminated. As if all that wasn’t enough, toxics cause irritation, itching, burns, edema and other skin problems.

Even so, there is another factor that must be taken into account. If dogs and cats lick themselves to get rid of the itch or to alleviate the discomfort caused by the paint… Toxics can reach the digestive system! This can cause vomiting, diarrhea and often death.

  1. cause allergy

Even though, recently, some paints for animals have been created, what is certain is that they do not guarantee that the animal “accepts” the aesthetic treatment. Many animals are allergic to the ingredients in the product and suffer in the same way, as if a dye for humans had been used.

Don’t forget that your dog’s or cat’s skin is very delicate, so you can’t wash it with the same shampoo you use.

  1. cause stress

If you want to paint an animal, you should know that the process is much more stressful than bathing – if it doesn’t like to bathe – and this can cause suffering and anguish for the animal. Wetting the fur, applying the paint, letting it take effect, rinsing and drying can take up to an hour… During all this time the animal will be scared, nervous and may even try to bite you.

  1. Alter the animal’s behavior

Painting animals is completely unnatural. They already have the fur of a certain color and they don’t have to change it. This change can change the behavior of the animal when it goes out: many of them will not even want to walk or get out of bed (something similar happens when you cut their fur in summer).

  1. Change the animal’s smell

In addition to the toxicity of paint, as we said, being something very dangerous, you must take into account that your particular smell will camouflage the smell of the animal. And he won’t be able to communicate.

Therefore, even if a green dog catches the attention of people on the street, other animals will reject it and not come near it. And it’s not fair that this happens at the owner’s whim!

  1. humanize the animal

It’s another trend that unfortunately can be bad for your little friend. Even if you like him a lot, be his faithful companion and always be by his side, you must understand that he is not a person, nor even your baby.

The fact of “humanizing” dogs and cats is harmful to animals: they are without limits, do not follow rules, do not relate to other animals, among other problems.
