Legend has it that cats have seven lives or nine, depending on where in the world they are considered. What happened is that Bobby, at only nine months old, seems to have spent one of them. Read on to learn the story of the cat who survived a 60-degree wash click in a washing machine.

The story of Bobby the Survivor

The incident took place in Nottingham, UK.

Bobby’s owner, Lisa Keefe, was making all the preparations to do the laundry, and the cat wandered around, perhaps looking for a soft, quiet spot to take a good nap.

Certainly, the little animal thought the washing machine was an ideal place and he ended up going in there, and as had happened before, Keefe quickly removed him.

However, in a woman’s oversight, the pussy went back inside the machine and settled itself between the folds of a duvet in such a way that she couldn’t realize it was there.

Then  the washing machine started with Bobby inside. And it was at this time that Keefe heard a noise coming from inside the appliance and decided to turn it off, while wondering where the cat was.

Her suspicion was confirmed when she saw the coloration of her pet’s fur mixed with the yellowish hue of the bedspread. For a second she was paralyzed, but she reacted and pulled the animal out of the machine.

Wasting no time, Lisa and her husband Kevin took Bobby to their town’s pet hospital. The cat came to the brink of collapse, but the vets managed to stabilize it and the next day it was able to return home.

As the doctors said, the cat was very lucky to be able to tell this story. When he arrived at the emergency room, he was hypothermic and in shock.

Professionals also indicated that they do not know of cases similar to this one. Thus , Bobby, the cat who survived a wash cycle, was nominated for the PDSA Pet Survivor Award, created to highlight the “most impressive stories of pets who survived by a miracle.”

The award will be presented by The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animal , an NGO dedicated to providing veterinary services to low-income pet owners. At one of the health centers, Nottingham Pet Hospital , cat Bobby was treated and had his life saved.

In 2015, the award was given to Ziggy, a Terrier dog who survived a gunshot wound to the head. The dog had been found alone and wounded in a Staffordshire wood. Once recovered, the animal was adopted by two people who learned of its sad story through the media.

While awaiting the choice of the winner of this year’s PSDA awards, we want to believe that the cat has learned its lesson and will not go back into the washing machine due to the carelessness of its owners.

Anyway, now, the Keefes make sure every now and then that the cat isn’t walking by the washing machine every time they go to use the appliance.

It doesn’t hurt to remember that pets are exposed to a wide variety of accidents in their homes.  So, pay close attention and try to prevent your four-legged friend from being in danger both inside and outside the house.
