A Dog Only Makes Us Suffer When It Dies

A dog only makes us suffer when it dies

When we get a dog for the first time, we have no idea how much we’re going to love him. It’s just that choosing a dog is not something random, although it seems, we decided on one or the other because we feel a special connection with him. Perhaps his gaze enchanted us, or he made a move that fell in love or responded in an unexpected way to one of our caresses, robbing us of our souls.

when arriving home

When you get home with your new puppy, which you’ve been looking at restlessly on the way home, you open the door and drop him on the floor and he looks at you. You can’t help but ask yourself: what now?

Well, now you have a responsibility, but also a friend for life. You start walking and your new friend follows you.

It always bothered you that people follow you, possibly a friend or even a family member, but this time it doesn’t bother you, and what’s more, you think it’s funny. It makes you feel important, because you realize that your new friend is so helpless that he needs to be close to you to feel safe.

At this point you think you should give him water and possibly something for him to eat. Lucky you bought everything at the pet store before you came home! And then, one of the first moments when your dog makes you feel happy: his joy as a sign of gratitude for giving him water and food.

You try to move away so he can eat calmly, but he looks at you, he doesn’t want you to leave him alone and goes after you, so you have no choice but to stay close for him to eat.

You’ve always said that an animal shouldn’t climb onto the bed or the couch, but when you go to the couch to watch TV, and your new little friend starts crying over your cuddles, you can’t resist. You think putting it on your lap is not the same as putting it on the couch. What a lame excuse!

the days pass

So, the days go by and a special bond already exists between you, so much so that you can almost understand each other with your gaze. You love getting up in the morning and knowing that when your four-legged friend hears you, he comes running like a madman to greet you. Sometimes it even bothers you, but her sweetness, her tenderness and her love have already won you over.

You love his insistence that he grab a quick breakfast and take him for a walk before going to work. He jumps like crazy when he sees you grab the leash! And you can’t help but smile. On the street, he walks around with you in a somewhat arrogant way, as if wanting to show how happy he is to have you as his owner, rather, as a friend.

As he leaves for work, it’s a bit disturbing and sad to hear him cry at being alone at home. But you know he’ll be fine, and so you can’t help but wonder why even though the years have passed, you still feel bad about leaving him alone. And when do you get home from work?

But when you get home, when you hear from the elevator your little paws running to the door, your muzzle sniffing under the door, and some other crying, you want to get out of the elevator right away and get home and be able to hug your pet. “Calm down, I’m already here”, you tell him.

He doesn’t seem to understand you, because he goes on like crazy like he’s going to have a heart attack. But you… you feel so loved and grateful.

But one day…

One day, like so many others, you get up and sit on your couch. Your pet comes to greet you, asks you to take it for a walk. You smile thinking of those moments when you wanted to teach him to sit and he looked at you without understanding what you wanted, or when you threw him a ball, he knew you would catch it, made you run after him.

You remember the first time you brought him home; he was so scared. That time you got sick and he didn’t leave your side. How he barked whenever he heard a noise trying to defend you. Or when someone, jokingly, hit you, he tried to bite.

Yes, looking back, you only have good moments that remind you of your dog. What’s more, if I went back I wouldn’t choose another dog, because life without him wouldn’t be the same.

So you look at your feet, but your faithful and loyal friend is no longer there. That was all you wanted to see right now and it took you to sail the serene seas of your memories. And then he understands a difficult but beautiful reality: a dog only makes us suffer when he dies. Wherever you are my friend, thank you for making me happy.
