A famous cat who has her statue in Istanbul, but why?

Cats are said to have 7 lives, but it seems there are some that never die. As is the case of Tombili, a famous cat who even has her own statue in Istanbul. Would you like to know why ?

It is beautiful to see that there are still people who love animals and cities who love them, to the point of making a statue to honor them. Istanbul is characterized by taking very good care of its stray cats. In fact, there are hundreds on its streets, but we’ve already told you about that in another article. Today we will focus on Tombili.

Tombili, a famous cat who has her statue

This stray cat, like so many others that inhabit the city, had a peculiarity that took a smile from all those who saw her. It was his way of sitting. It reminded her of Cleopatra lying on her couch while slaves fed her grapes.

This is exactly the posture Tombili had when he was sitting down. It didn’t matter if it was on a bench, on a leash or on a ladder, she always did it the same way. It seems that the locals were more than used to seeing it that way, and although it made them laugh, they didn’t see anything special.

Tombili became famous

However, Tombili’s luck changed when a tourist photographed her with his camera in this posture, lying on a ladder. He posted on social media and the image went viral in a matter of minutes. After that, Tombili became the protagonist of hundreds of memes that roamed the net.

What is certain is that her posture is very graceful, and adding to that the fact that Tombili was obese, the image gained even more comic value. Strange postures and obese cats are one of the favorite topics on the net.

Unfortunately, in August 2016, Tombili died of a serious and long illness. This fact was announced in the city by posters that said she would never be forgotten and that also carried the phrase: “It will live in our hearts”.

And to echo the city’s love for this cat, they paid tribute to her with a statue of the animal sitting just as she did. They put her on one of their favorite benches and today there are many tourists who come to see her.

Those who knew her personally claim that the statue is very well constructed and that it is identical to the original animal. But that’s not all, many take food, tea and water almost daily for them to eat.

While it’s obvious that other cats drink and eat the food, the villagers want to continue to believe that Tombili’s spirit roams near the statue and feeds on what they give it. What’s wrong with that?

Animals made famous thanks to social media

Tombili is not the only animal that social media has benefited from, as there were many who, for different things or actions, became super famous. For example:

  • Hachicko. A film was even made of him, and like Tombili, he also has a statue. Although it was for a slightly more noble reason, unconditional loyalty to its owner.
  • Quiet. This Chihuahua dog does yoga with its owner in a perfect way. He became famous and has his own YouTube channel.
  • Pumping. This raccoon thinks it’s a dog and does very cute things that arouse laughter and interest from internet users. It also has its own Facebook and Instagram page.
  • Ronaldog. Almost a professional football player, this dog does amazing things with the ball. Maybe someday we can see him play with the big ones.
