  1. understand what he wants to tell you

Understanding different languages is not a problem for the more “common” pets  (ie, dogs and cats), although each one’s reaction is different. Cats do not usually respond to a call as they do to dogs. They will only respond to your call if you have food or perhaps a toy. However, this does not mean that he does not understand you, but rather that he prefers to be “rebellious” at certain times, for example, when he is sleeping, tracking an insect or looking out of a window.

  1. There are two ways to communicate

It was already clear then that pussies respond to the owner’s call when they feel like it. But what happens when they want to express something?  They use two sounds: the meow and the purr. The first is to draw attention or ask for something, such as food, caresses or games. They also use it if they are nervous or scared.

In the case of purring, this is a way of saying that they feel very comfortable in such a situation. You can hear that “little engine” when he sleeps beside you, when you stroke his chin or when he’s cleaning himself.

  1. Prefer solitude

Another of the issues to understand cats, which we must not forget, is their independent personality. Unlike dogs, felines choose to be alone and this is sometimes difficult for humans to understand. Cats prefer a warm box to being surrounded by animals or people, they feel better just at home all day, because they can sleep peacefully on the sofa… it’s not about being antisocial or anything like that, just for them, they feel that being alone is safer. Furthermore, they are self-sufficient! They can get food and bathe themselves.

  1. Tap water is your favorite

If you want to understand cats, you must have wondered a few times why, having a drinking fountain full of water, they want to drink from the tap. The answer is very simple: because they  prefer moving water and don’t like standing still.  The latter is associated with diseases related to bacteria, parasites and viruses.

  1. It’s more active at night

Many wonder why cats spend a lot of time sleeping during the day, and just before nightfall, it seems they’ve turned on their ignition button. They work the opposite of us! They jump from there to here, they want to climb on things, they use everything as toys, they climb onto the bed or the sofa like devils… all of this, of course, has an explanation: the nocturnal predator instinct added to the fact that cats’ eyes are prepared to see in the dim light and this makes them more active when the sun goes down.

  1. rub in things

One of the habits that most catch our attention, and that we must learn to understand cats, is related to their need to mark territory. Cats are extremely “zealous” beings for their place. That’s why they don’t like anyone using their bed or touching their toys. How do they mark each object (or person) as their own? Leaving them your personal scent ! And for that it is necessary that they rub their face several times in the place they want to take possession of.
