Every day, when I woke up cold in the metal cage I slept in, I felt a huge emptiness inside. Despite having many fellows in the same situation around me, I still felt very alone.

The cage neighbors were not only sad but also angry and every time I wanted to talk to them or approach them, they grunted as if I was going to steal their food. I had the memory of when I was at home happy, with my owners, they were lovely, but they adopted me when they were very old and one day, when I went to wake them up, they didn’t wake up…

And then someone brought me here. I don’t know how long it’s been or how long I’ll be here. I don’t even know what I look like, it looks like it’s not very cute or cuddly, because I see how people like the other neighbor dogs and take them home. I can see their eyes, I don’t like them very much, although I make an effort to smile and play games to amuse them.

But in the end, I always end up crestfallen and lying in my cold cage again.

It was a day, like any other, in front of my cold stainless steel cage, suddenly you appeared and our eyes met. Your eyes were so deep and caring…I’ve wanted to go home with you ever since. However, they soon made you take your eyes off me, and I got discouraged again thinking that this gesture had only been a refreshment in my thirsty solitude.

The owner of the center took you to see other dogs, you were in front of other cages when I felt that… you were looking at me… but no, it was all in my mind, it couldn’t be true. I lay down with my gaze to the inside of the cage, it was better not to think about it anymore.

Suddenly I heard my name, I was the owner of the center, what did he want? Did he see that I’m sad? He’s good, he’s the one who feeds me, I can’t disobey him. I managed to get around the cage very easily, the door was open! And there you were, crouched down, smiling at me. You wanted to meet me, but I didn’t want to create too many illusions, what if then you didn’t choose me?

There wasn’t even time to make me interesting, you had already decided: you wanted me for you!

And we arrived home, our home!

I was scared, we got home and I didn’t know anything, I didn’t know how to behave, so I preferred to stay behind his feet and follow his steps. I didn’t want to do anything wrong now that I had finally found someone. 

You talked to me sweetly while whispering my name, taught me where to eat and where to sleep, bought me everything I would need… you were waiting for me! And I’ve been waiting for you for a long time too.

Days passed and your love and affection made me love you, feel good in our home. What could I tell you now that my days are over? You took care of me, loved me and let yourself be loved by me, that’s what I needed most.

I can’t forget the days when you arrived tired from work and always smiled at me, took me for walks and played with me, made me delicious recipes, hugged me when I was sick, there are many good memories. No matter where I go or where you are, I can never forget you and I’ll never have enough words to thank you and tell you how much I love you.
