Russian City Wants Cat For Mayor

Russian city wants cat as mayor

Although it may seem hard to believe, in Russia and in many other parts of the world, the disappointment and disillusionment with political leaders who were supposed to solve the problems is so great that  people place their trust and hope in such unusual figures as animals. ,  in order to express their disgust more categorically.

When all the means are spent to make themselves heard and everything remains the same, this type of action becomes intelligent proposals for the population to make people understand that they are tired.

This is what happened in Barnaúl, a Siberian town 3,600 kilometers from Moscow, where  the population is so bored with its leaders that they begged a cat to be their new mayor.

A cat as a symbol of discontent

It is Barsik, a beautiful feline of only 18 months, whose life has taken an impressive turnaround  and is now the figure on whom the inhabitants of this town are betting to be their new leader.

Do not believe? For  this cute little one stunned locals and outsiders alike after getting no more and no less than 91% of the vote,  an astronomical figure that stunned the entire world.

All this amusing display of political wisdom and absolute irony has exploded in recent months, after the mayor of that locality was removed  from his position for the illicit sale of tax land to his relatives, at suspicious and ridiculously cheap prices, which was the last straw. Water.

According to them, with the jocular tone of someone who bet on the presence of the cat in this important political instance,  he may not have much experience, but at least he will not annoy anyone with repetitive and endless speeches and will not be judged for cases of corruption.

However,  whoever supports the cat strongly assures that if the feline is involved in this type of situation, the worst that could happen is that it steals Whiskas  or any other brand of cat food.

The explosion of the Barsik phenomenon

The turning point of this unequaled peaceful manifestation of social discontent occurred when the first surveys were made known,  in which the 6 candidates appeared to take the place of the recently removed mayor.

It turns out that,  despite the undoubted fact that Barsik would only appear as a comic image symbolic of tiredness, he rocked the polls  and produced a domino effect that was represented by the explosion of his image in almost every corner of Barnaúl.

From billboards with his photo, to coffee cups with his silhouette and Che Guevara T-shirts with his face,  the phenomenon that had just occurred was something few people expected,  and it only demonstrated that citizens’ fatigue with politics is not joking, despite being manifested in this way.

Russian politicians recognize the feat of the cat

What is certain is that  despite the figure of Barsik not appearing among the candidates for obvious reasons, there are many people who feel disappointed in this situation,  since while some believe that it is actually better to be ruled by a cat, others see it as impossibility of materializing in a more severe way their fatigue with the political situation.

In this way,  numerous Russian politicians got the message of this fact and recognized that the people of Barnaúl no longer trust anyone,  so a profound renewal will be needed to regain the people’s trust.

However, what is certain is that this fact has already changed the life of not only the inhabitants of this small Siberian town, but also that  of a cat who went from being a simple pet to becoming an authentic political leader.
